Top 5 Features to Look for in a Crypto Broker
Most people put more thought into their first trade than into the broker they'll make it on. Here are the five things I'd check before opening a crypto account in 2025 — security, fees, range, liquidity and support.
TLDR: The broker you choose shapes every trade you make after that. Here are the five things I'd check before opening a crypto account in 2025.
Crypto trading keeps growing, and most people put more thought into their first trade than into the broker they'll make it on. That's backwards. The broker sits between you and the market — the platform, the tools, the security all run through them. Get that choice right and everything downstream gets easier. Here's what I look for.
Start with security. When your assets are digital, it isn't a feature — it's the whole foundation. I want a broker that treats the safety of funds and personal information as non-negotiable:
- Cold storage for funds: the leading brokers keep the majority of client funds offline, in cold storage, out of reach of hackers.
- Two-factor authentication (2FA): an extra layer on your login that makes it much harder for anyone unauthorised to get into your account.
- Regulation and licensing: a broker regulated by a reputable financial authority has oversight and something to lose. That credibility matters. Choose accordingly.
Low fees and competitive pricing
Fees eat profits quietly, and in a market as volatile as crypto they compound fast. Look at transaction fees, spread margins and withdrawal costs before you deposit — not after. NextTrade, for instance, is known for its low transaction fees, which matters most if you trade frequently or in size.
A wide range of cryptocurrencies
The market goes well beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. A good broker gives you access to both the established coins and the emerging ones, so you can actually diversify instead of concentrating by default. NextTrade offers a wide array of crypto assets for exactly that reason.
Liquidity
Liquidity is how easily you can buy or sell without moving the price. High liquidity means your orders fill quickly, at or close to the price you wanted — and that matters most when the market is doing something violent. The best brokers build it through partnerships with major exchanges, so you can get in and out of positions even when everyone else is trying to do the same thing at the same time.
User experience and support
Crypto moves fast, and a clunky platform costs you money in a market that doesn't wait. I'd want an intuitive interface, proper mobile access, and customer support that actually responds. NextTrade focuses on a user-friendly platform — managing a portfolio and executing trades on the go shouldn't be a fight. And look for 24/7 support. Problems in crypto don't keep office hours.
